Marriott International said hotel managers had started removing plastic straw from bars and restaurants and the sooner the better.

The world’s largest hotel chain is removing plastic straws from all sixty of its establishments in Britain and it would remove them from its more than 6.500 properties by July 2019.

Customers who request plastic straw will be offered different one.

All over the world it is possible to count many other establishments that are following the same track adopting a new company policy: “purchase reusable straws that are great for the go”. It means that the market offers different alternatives to plastic that are less harmful to the environment.

The options currently available are:

  • Bamboo
  • Stainless steel
  • Glass
  • Silicone
  • Straw free (even better!)

If you think that the usage time of a straw is about 20 minutes, while the timing for its disposal is equal to 500 years, as the single-use plastics are not recyclable, we will understand that we can do without it.

The Plastic Pollution Coalition, a global alliance of individuals, organizations, businesses and policy makers working toward a world free of plastic pollution, claims that the most alarming data comes from the United States: 500 million disposable straws are consumed every day.

Many hotels have changed their mentality, while others are about to do so. The first step to adopt a winning management methodology is certainly to be aware of current issues and offers offered today by the market.
